Our History
Transport and Allied Workers Union Kenya is one of the oldest registered Trade unions in the country, having existed before Independence and played a pivotal role in the struggle for independence of Kenya. It was first registered as Kenya African Road Transport and Mechanics Union in the late 1930s by revolutionary freedom fighter Fred Kubai.
On 3rd & 5th December 1948, the union, through a resolution, resolved to change its name to Transport & Allied Workers Union and subsequently the changes were registered on 21st December 1948.
